  • You'd be better- off to remove the Thuds and replace them with fins. Note that the second stage is also unstable: But it doesn't matter because it shouldn't separate until the rocket is out of most of the atmosphere.

Keerbal really shouldn't need wings and definitly not RCS, RCS is for tiny adjustments in space and doesn't do much in atmospheres. I'm building a space station that will make a trip to Jool, collect science from its moons and return. I also kwrbal now, that in his 2nd pic the resource panel is open and that it shows that he still has half of his battery power. This is overkill, but it has lots of science for your first trip to the Mun, and plenty of fuel to slow down your burn into the kerbins atmosphere at the end and prevent a lot of time spent on aerobraking orbits. I read this thread with my eyes getting wider every time someone said that the Kerbin Pe should be km, since most of my Tipx landings are Apollo recreations, and if I set a Pe any higher than the capsule would go skipping off into the beyond every time! Done it before, landed on it before, now every time I try a simple "orbit Mun and back" mission I burn in Kerbin's atmosphere or run out of fuel. Question feed. If you can cancel that out, and gently slow yourself down to the surface, landings in space will get much better, even with a slightly taller lander design.
